We liked the boat so much
we bought the company! Not really, but we did open a business so we could
offer these great boats to anyone in Southeast Alaska…
We, Todd and Jodie Buck,
are the owners of Panhandle Powerboats. Our company was born in the
winter of 2007-2008 with a debut at Juneau’s
Rotary Club Boat Show in March of 2008.
We sell C-Dory, Tomcat Skagit
Orca, and Sea Sport boats. You can view boat details on these websites: C-Dory.com, SkagitOrca.com, SeaSportBoats.com. We also
have rental boats as well that we rent out during the summer. See our rental section for more
on rentals.
So, we set out in the fall
of 2007 to purchase a boat – a C-Dory of course. Todd is an absolute fan
of C-Dory boats and has been since the mid-eighties. He is convinced that
C-Dory boats are well suited for Southeast Alaska’s
marine conditions. In fact, C-Dory has quite an amazing following - check
out www.c-brats.com and you can literally
read for hours what C-Dory owners say about their boats. C-Dory products
were not available in Southeast Alaska at the time from an Alaskan dealer so we
did as so many Alaskans do, we traveled to Washington. We were pleased with the
attention and information we received from one dealer in particular. However, we returned home thoughtful but empty handed. We had cash for a
boat, a boat that could not realistically be serviced locally if needed. We investigated the dealership option. After much deliberation with
family, banks and C-Dory we opened a dealership instead. As of this writing
we still do not have our own C-Dory yet – that will most likely change in the
spring. However we are proud of the decision we made. We honestly
believe C-Dory boats are amazing and there are several to choose from. Todd’s favorites are the 22 and 25 ft C-Dorys while Jodie’s is the
Tomcat. The Tomcat with its’ beautiful lines boasts of a rather large
queen berth, an enclosed head w/ shower and a very spacious cockpit. It
rides amazingly smooth even in rough seas.
To conclude, we have good
jobs and are not out to make a fortune on the sale of each boat. We also
have a business to maintain. Our prices are very fair and competitive
with the Washington
dealers – so far our prices have been lower. We are trying to run an
honest business of sales and service. Our shop hours in the winter will remain
unpredictable until the business grows enough to support the staff.
However, we will gladly
meet anyone interested in a boat or anyone interested in having their boat
serviced. Contact jake@panhandlepowerboats.com or todd@panhandlepowerboats.com.
Jake can easily be reached by phone at 907-209-6990.
Todd’s strong background
in boating and experience with Southeast Alaskan marine conditions are great
assets in this boating business. Jodie’s extensive knowledge on consumer
issues brings a unique perspective to the business, always keeping the
potential consumer in mind. We are customers too.
Who is Jake?
Jake is our oldest son and
is essentially the sales, service and rental manager of the business. He
has grown up in Southeast Alaska with a
passion for boating, fishing and the outdoors in general. He is a
no-nonsense sort of guy that does not like to waste his time or the time of
others. He is honest, fair and hardworking. We’ve already received
amazing feedback concerning him from our boat sales and boat rental
customers. While you are free to contact any of us, Jake is the most
readily available.
Why Should You Buy in Alaska?
We believe buying in Alaska is important when
it is possible. Washington
businesses love to sell to Alaskans – they don’t have to service what they
sell. Logistics make it virtually impossible when it comes to large
items. And, when it comes to boats, boat owners are not going to
ship or tow their boat back to the lower-48 dealer. I’d love to say more
but probably should stop at this point.
Local service is very
important. A boat in ill repair is simply a hole in the water. We
service what we sell. We also service other C-Dory products that you or
anyone might already own.
